A few nights ago, I suddenly received an SMS from this old woman.
Her:
Good friends don’t always need togetherness. Don’t always need everyday conversation. As long as the friendship lives in the
HEART, it remains FOREVER. G’night.
And then, i replied…
Me:
Wa.. I don’t have all these SMSes one lei.. I only poems like “Birds fly high, hard to catch. Friends like you, hard to forget”. Can bo? Haha!

Rings a bell?
This makes me think got the “autograph” books which we used to pass around during our primary school days! Still remember the books decorated with different colours of shiny shiny ink pens and the poems we used to write in them? Hmmm.. to think it’s supposed to act as a form of contact.. now.. Where has all my books gone to? *Mimics Lex’s rub chin action*
Ahhhhh.. Come to think of it, I’m beginning to miss my childhood days. *Ignores naggings from older people about me still being young.
Still remember the times where you ( guys ) play gor li on the sand and that the winner gets to keep the marbles? And squatting down on the sand pit to rub the marbles on the sand to make them mor peng – Which till today, I still don’t know why it was a fashion to do so…. To increase friction? -_-”..
Or the times when you used up all the coins you have ( with a lie in mind to explain for your “money loss” to your mum later on… “Eh, i dropped it.” *squeeze apologetic smile* ) to tong Dragonball Z cards? And if that card wasn’t a golden card, we will always start feeling the back of the card. The smoother it is, the nearer it is to the golden card. Very illogical, but what to expect from a group of 8-9 years old?
Oh oh! Still remember the blind mices game you played at the playground, with the catcher always peeping, and refusing to admit even if he/she was caught? Or the block catching!! The feeling of adrenaline coursing through your veins, heart thumping hard against your chest, preparing to run any moment you see any movement.
And the days i spent in school for my ECA ( Read: Scouts ), giving instructions to juniors. Hey, i was the highest ranking scouts for my year ok!
Not to mention the days ( and recess times i skipped ) to go to the school library to read up on books about planets ( Yes, i loved Astronomy since young! ). I’ll always hide the books on the top of the shelves if i can’t finish reading them, to make sure no one can find it. ( Haha! ) I even became a librarian to have easier access to the books!
Remember the young zoologist badge, young readers award collar pin? I have a hell lot of them! Heh! I even cheated, borrowing 3-4 books for one day and returning them the next, claiming that I’ve finished reading them ( So that i can record them as read. Need to reach a target no. of books before being able to claim the badge/collar pin ). We had to do book reviews as prove that we had finished reading. I was ( still am ) smart. It helps to just read a bit of the starting, middle.. and the end. Even better if the book has a sypnosis at the back. Just summarise and rephrase! Haha!
I was a prefect and so, i have sooooooo many badges/collar pins on me. I thought it was cool. *slaps forehead*
“Shaker” mechanical pencils anyone? Those that comes in bright BLUE, RED and YELLOW. I was a poor kid. Always envied those able to use their “Shakers” to write on the exercise books. Oh.. and do you guys still remember the feeling of being able to use pens for homework when you are promoted to primary 3? And in comes the G1, G2 pens.
Ahhhh.. The thing i missed most must be the prata stall near my primary school. I miss the days when my group of friends ( which we called, the LIMS family, because we all have the same surname ) “chilled out” at the coffee shop near school, eating prata and drinking milo peng after our daily playground session.
Looking back, i certainly disguised myself well eh! I was a prefect, model student with good grades ( was always top 3 in class until later on when i started my playground “adventures” ), but the things i do after school… tsk tsk *Shakes head*
*Sigh*
Can’t help feeling nostalgic.
Nonetheless, thinking about my childhood days never fails to put a smile on my face. Everything was so happy with nothing much to worry ( except the much dreaded assessment books and homeworks.. ). Heh!
Notice how we always bury ourselves in the towering mountain of workload we have to handle everyday, keeping ourselves busy and changing along with the ever changing world?
Take a break and have a kit kat, grab a chair and a cuppa good coffee , sit down and think of your childhood. It’s nice to think back and relish the feeling of innocence once in a while. The comforting thing about our childhood is that, it will not change.. and would be always there in the old wooden box at a corner of the dusty old room.
Go on, try it. Pick up the box, dust off the dust on it, open it up and look back into your childhood.
Comforting? Sure is.. = )
An attempt to contact my long lost friends… how are you alllllll?!? Ha! If you happened to chance on this blog, and was from Lianhua Primary School ( 1B, 2B, 3C, 4B, 5D, 6F ) or happened to know this Si Gin Na called Robin Lim Han Liang who
threatened to book you using his prefect booking.. erm.. bookwas a rather high profile person in school… that’s me la! = ) Teachers are welcomed too! Leave a comment… I won’t hesitate to write in your “autograph” book again, only this time, I’ll keep it for real..! = )
P/S: Wah… the school’s website si bei hi-tech. Even got flash images for banner! Wahahhahahaa!
P/S/S: My internet died on me when i clicked “publish”. My heart skipped and i thought i have to retype! I would have exercise full use of my hokkien vocabulary if this was blogger. Thank god this is wordpress, which does backup for bloggers at certain time intervals! Woohoo!
